Nerd’s Log - Date 2012-01-24

I was not supposed to stay up this late, but I did and now I am exhausted.

Tomorrow should be an easy day. 2 private sessions and some consulting work to focus on. Today was similar. I had a couple of great online sessions. The first one was a demonstration for a client’s staff about financial statements. In fact this gave me the idea for the live webinar I’ve now scheduled:

Understanding Your financial Statements

Then I helped a guy who has used QuickBooks for years but never really got to understand the accounting. I love working with people like this because they have so much appreciation.

I have almost completely knocked out the consulting work from my schedule so that most of my time is spent on the training. This has been a goal of mine for some time now and it’s really cool to see the dream come to life. I’ve even got a guy working with me and doing some of the trainings. My goal is to help other people make a great living by teaching them to use my web conferencing software to run these sessions so that they can do the QuickBooks and other trainings. Then I can spend my time writing blogs and recording videos and taking the occasional training when I want to as well as holding live webinars.

I want to teach on many levels. The obvious is the trainings I give to clients. The less obvious is that I am already working with other accountants and teaching them how to teach as well as how to use the software that I use to teach online, Adobe Connect. In doing this I am enabling them to earn a living - or at least giving them one more way.

I also want to teach people that they don’t have to put up with crappy management at their jobs. That the technology is here now which let’s anyone anywhere go out and make a living on their own. I want to teach people that a good manager teaches his/her staff so that they can improve their ability to make a living whether by moving up the ladder or moving on to better positions elsewhere. If they motivate and inspire their employees then they won’t have to worry about them ever wanting to move on and the better they do at teaching their employees the easier their own job becomes.

I want to see the day where people no longer ever have to cringe about the idea of going to work for a mean boss every day. Where the competition to be a “good” manager will be so fierce that the arrogant condescending and immature ones will be forced to either change or be out of the workforce. They don’t deserve to be there.

Today was a good day for me.
